I commented how much we'd enjoyed the "upgraded" CSW Sixes, and he commented, somewhat ruefully, that the timing couldn't have been much worse for the publication of his article in aX. They have served well.Īs an interesting aside, at some point, some years after the fact, I ended trading e-mails with Jim Forte for some reason.
#CAMBRIDGE SOUNDWORKS ENSEMBLE SPEAKERS UPGRADE#
Im looking to upgrade here at some point, starting with my mains, and Id like to use the Cambridge satellites as rear surrounds in a 7.1 setup until I can upgrade my rear speakers. This is the 3 piece sub/sat system they sold by the truckload back in the mid-late 90s. The pair I redid ended up doin' time with both of our kids during their UG years, and went on to live with our daughter - and they still do. I have an old set of Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble IIs that Im using as mains in a 5.1 setup right now. They really are improved by the Forte-designed XO too, I'd opine: much more transparent and more neutral, too, as I recall. So - even the original CSW Six sounds good if a bit bland - but these things, on sale at the time (very early 2000s) for ca. (with my usual high level of craftsmanship, of course ) Many years back, audioXpress published an interesting article that described and offered a crossover redesign that, in the opinion of its author, Jim Forte, a marked improvement over the "value engineered" (my term, not his!) XO used by CSW - at the behest, he hypothesized, of CSW bean counters - in the stock Model Six.ĬSW used to regularly have half-price sales of these little two-ways, so, as our daughter's college matriculation loomed, I bought a pair on sale and proceeded to redo the XO per Forte's article. The Six was designed, so CSW claimed, by Henry Kloss himself - and named in homage to his earlier Model Six (sold, it may be recalled, under the "KLH" brand name!). Got me to reminiscing about the modest but very pleasant (and inexpensive!) little CSW Model Six. We have collected the most relevant information on Cambridge Audio Ensemble Speakers.Open the URLs, which are collected below, and you will find all the info you are interested in. Well, actually Im not sure if they are speakers or sub woofers. Celt's dandy new (as I type this!) thread: Hey guys, My dads friend is giving a bunch of stuff away because hes moving, and he ended up giving me a pair of fully functioning, original, white Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble speakers.
